Below is the coveted patch of the ‘Ph.D. of Fighter Aviation’, USAF Fighter Weapons School, Nellis AFB Nevada, ‘Home of the Fighter Pilot.’ I proudly graduated in June 1975 and wore this patch (in addition to the others) for the rest of my career.
The Fighter Pilot’s Road Map
Every military organization has a distinctive emblem. During the course of a 28 year career, I wore every one of the patches depicted on this page and they all bring back memories, many of which I share in my book. As you can see my career took me around the world: Europe, Middle East, Asia and the US. I wouldn’t trade what I did for anything else—life as a fighter pilot was sometimes dangerous, often demanding and short on creature comforts but it was never, ever boring.
